ASSESSMENT
ARBELAS CONSULTING
Using the world’s most comprehensive research into High Performance Organisations, the Superyacht Operational Performance Assessment is an independent deep dive into the factors that enable the Superyacht to be enjoyed to her full potential.
Operational Performance is assessed using the extraordinary research of Professor André de Waal at the Masstricht Business School, the Centre for Organisational Performance and ratified by Cranfield Management School. This is combined with the high performance cultural transformation knowledge of the Arbelas team operating in both the maritime and corporate worlds.
We use the findings of the HPO meta analysis of over 300 research studies into high performance. Since 2007, there have been over 40,000 respondents to HPO surveys across the globe, all being correlated to competitive performance to prove the benefits, and rigorously assessed by publication in Scientific Journals.
Exclusively, we bring this scientific research, together with our own expertise, to assess and benchmark Superyacht Operational Performance.
The five factors that are assessed through a mix of anonymous questionnaire and personal interview are;
-
Quality of Management - how trusted and capable are the senior crew and management?
-
Quality of Crew - how engaged and accountable are the crew?
-
Long Term Orientation - is the superyacht run in a reactive manner or with strategic and long term focus?
-
Open and Action Orientation - how integrated are the yacht functions and how effective is the yacht culture
-
Continuous Improvement - are all systems improved, simplified and aligned?
The HPO framework provides a baseline for whole organisational performance and improvement, ensuring all activity is focused on raising performance levels.
Superyacht Operational Performance Assessment
The assessment process
Our team will carry out its assessment of your superyacht through a blend of interview, observation and questionnaire in situ, either alongside or at sea. This is a detailed, in depth assessment of the Operational Performance of the crew, using the HPO Centres scientifically validated methodology. This assessment provides the essential building block to delivering an High Performance Organisation. The process follows the following steps:

Initial discussion with the owner, manager and/or Captain to understand any current concerns and detail the process and format of outcomes.
-
Organise the assessment date and interview schedules, usually directly with the Captain and crew
-

Assessment
-
The Arbelas team will work with the Captain and crew of the superyacht in situ
-
The average assessment takes no more than 3 days onboard
Consolidation
-
The Arbelas team will review findings
-
There may be a need for a second short visit
Report
-
Delivered to the Owner or Manager as requested
-

Follow up & Tracking
-
work with Captain and senior staff in monitoring development solution implementation
Re-Assessment
-
High Performance Organisations perform reassessments approximately annually to examine progress and ensure effort is correctly focused.
-
Event driven assessments are also used for example, in advance of the yacht being based in new cruising grounds, after an incident, prior to selling the yacht, or if there is significant senior crew change
We are proud of our independence at Arbelas. One of the key strengths of the Superyacht Operational Performace Assessment is its agnostic approach to the solution; we have no vested interest in solutions. Only in delivering a detailed, benchmarked picture for discussion with the team.
Arbelas can further assist in finding and filtering development solution providers and will be total transparent and authentic in our recommendations; you have the freedom to choose your solution methodology.
